S-A Buys ChanneLogics Assets

Scientific-Atlanta Inc. is beefing up its software stack by buying certain high-speed-data software and technology from ChanneLogics Inc.

There was no price tag on the deal.

The software includes forecast and prediction algorithms that allow cable systems to identify potential bottlenecks and plan high-speed-data capacity expansion.

ChanneLogics' "CableLogics" software will join S-A's "Prisma" and "WebSTAR" cable-data products.

"As the cable operators' capital expenditures of the past few years evolve into operating expenditures, they need solutions like ours to improve efficiency, protect revenue and manage their operations," said Paul Connelly, vice president, market and network architectures at S-A, in a prepared statement.

In other technology news, Liberty Livewire Corp. has been renamed Ascent Media Group.
