Road Runner Launches New Service Platform

Herndon, Va.-High-speed-data service Road Runner launched its new broadband-service platform last week, "Road Runner v2.4.1," through its 46 cable affiliates.

The upgrades were designed to make navigation faster by providing shortcut links and speedier page downloads, Road Runner vice president of product development Marc Plante said in a press release.

Road Runner also announced that it has partnered with several companies to offer new services to its customers, including online calendars, voice chats and online dating.

Calendar-service provider MyEvents.com Inc. has created a "MyTime" branded service for Road Runner that gives subscribers e-mail calendar reminders, a contact manager and a to-do list. The service also allows Road Runner customers to create private groups of friends or colleagues with which to share tools such as calendars or address books.

Flirt.com will bring its online dating service to Road Runner's "Living Channel." The singles-only service offers romance advice and personal ads.

Through a partnership with Lipstream Networks Inc., Road Runner offers live voice communications to customers who add speakers and microphones to their setups.

Other new services include a multimedia search engine from Rampt, a custom search directory from LookSmart Ltd. and specially designed maps and phone listings from Switchboard Inc.
