Report: Content Key to IPTV Play

A new report from Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Multimedia Research Group Inc. indicated that the biggest problem with selling IPTV services in North America is convincing consumers that it is a superior alternative.

The report, “Winning IP Content Strategies,” profiles the content strategies for operators worldwide, including those in the United States. Not surprisingly, it found that in markets such as the United States that are dominated by cable and satellite competitors, IPTV providers must come up with stronger content strategies.

Some IPTV players are looking to services such as network digital-video recording, on-demand programming and games to better compete with established TV-service providers, while others are aiming for on-demand content as a starter service to get people used to their service.
