Promptu Taps New CEO

Voice-activated-software provider Promptu Corp., formerly AgileTV Corp., has a new leader.

Giuseppe Staffaroni has been named CEO of the Menlo Park, Calif.-based company and will start work Tuesday. He replaces Paul Cook, who will continue to serve as chairman of the company’s board of directors.

Promptu has developed a technology that offers voice-activated content search, allowing people to tell devices ranging from cable set-top boxes to mobile phones what content they are seeking. The company had previously been focusing its marketing on the cable industry, but it has now expanded that focus to include mobile services and other emerging markets.

Staffaroni comes to Promptu after 15 years at LSI Logic Corp., a global storage and consumer-electronics player, where he served as executive vice president of the company’s consumer-products group.
