The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, Pace Micro Technology plc
and the Cahners Television Group have selected Robert Pendarvis as the recipient
of the industry's first 'Young Engineer of the Year Award.'
Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable are co-sponsors of
the award.
Pendarvis serves as manager of network engineering and technology deployment
for Comcast Cable Communications Inc. in Philadelphia.
'Robert is a key member of the Comcast team,' said Harry Reichert, SCTE
member and vice president of digital engineering for Comcast, the country's
third-largest cable company.
'He has made very significant contributions to our digital-video-platform
deployment and our video-on-demand projects that support Comcast's commitment to
bring new products and services to our customers,' he continued.
The SCTE, Pace and the Cahners Television Group established the Young
Engineer of the Year Award to recognize engineering professionals under age 30
for their contributions to the cable-telecommunications industry.
Pendarvis previously held positions as manager of telephony communications
for Comcast in Tallahassee, Fla., and electrical engineer, enhanced services,
for Comcast's Southeast region.
He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1994 with a bachelor's degree
in electrical engineering.
Pendarvis will receive his award Wednesday, Jan. 9, during SCTE's Conference
on Emerging Technologies 2002, to be held Jan. 8 through 10 at the Fairmont San
Jose in San Jose, Calif.
He'll also receive a trip to the conference, $1,000 and recognition in
Multichannel News, Cablevision, Broadcasting & Cable
and CED magazines.
