HBO Films will shed light on the man behind and in front of the camera in its
upcoming And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself.
The film, slated to premiere on Home Box Office Sept. 7 at 9:30 p.m., stars
Antonio Banderas in the title role.
The telepic examines the true story of how pioneering film giants D.W.
Griffith and Harry Aitken secured the exclusive rights to film Villa’s Mexican
Revolution in exchange for gold that helped to support that endeavor in
1913.
After many turns, twists and stops, the film, The Life of General
Villa, was released in 1914, and the industry’s first action movie became a
box-office hit while helping to turn American sentiment behind the Mexican
Revolution.
