OTT Startup TuYo Aims for Hispanic Millenials

The man who got thousands of Hispanic millennials to declare “I Love Jenni” is hoping they’ll have a similar level of admiration for TuYo.

Billed as the first over-the-top digital TV service owned and developed by Hispanics, TuYo (http://www.tuyotv.net/) is set for a July launch with both free and paid video-on-demand options in both English and Spanish. Users may select from channels of curated content or can create their own viewing grid from TuYo’s mix of original series, scripted series, documentary films, telenovelas, reality shows, sports, gaming and news programming.

Pete Salgado, the manager of the late regional Mexican singer Jenni Rivera and the executive producer of the mun2 docu-reality series I Love Jenni, is overseeing TuYo’s launch as founder and CEO.

“TuYo was created to expand the content options for audiences and creators on digital broadcast networks today,” Salgado said. “We have cultivated the best in programming and entertainment in Spanish and English, creating an opportunity for new and established talent and production partners to showcase the best in one-of-a-kind content serving an immediate viewing audience. We know that we have created a vital platform that delivers the best in unique bilingual content to a marketplace that has been waiting for this mix in one of the most-discussed platforms—– IPTV.”

TuYo’s executive team is comprised of vice president of programming and creative Mari Urdaneta; vice president of acquisitions and licensing Javier Morales; and director of production Enrique Calderon. Business operations are based in Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley.

“TuYo is the first Hispanic broadcast platform that includes talent in its business model, giving creators of all languages the opportunity to develop the in-house content that they’ve always dreamt of,” Urdandeta said. “It is content for a new generation of bilingual audiences.”

Urdaneta was most recently with Latin World Entertainment, and that company has inked one of TuYo’s inaugural content-platform partner agreements. Other providers include World of Wonder, VIP 2000, Dhana Media and Great Glass Productions.

Among the celebrities that have signed on as partners are singers Don Omar and Frankie J, actress and host Giselle Blondet, and veteran DJ Frankie Needles.

TuYo is already available on AppleTV, Roku, Google Chrome and the Firefly media server.
