OPNET Technologies Inc. has introduced a 'predictive'
network-management-software system designed for Data Over Cable Service
Interface Specification 1.1 that will allow cable operators to generate
'virtual' cable-modem networks as they evaluate the advanced spec.
OPNET said its software model was developed in concert with Cable Television
Laboratories Inc.'s Bandwidth Modeling and Management Vendor Forum, an
initiative the organization formed in mid-April.
Available July 1, OPNET's technology will also enable cable-modem vendors to
test a variety of product configurations and architectures before they start to
build expensive prototypes, the company said.
