Mountain View, Calif.-
said its interactive-TV middleware is now in 11 million digital set-topsworldwide.
That figure was reached after the company announced the addition of 1.7 million new OpenTV-enabled boxes in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, a 72-percent surge compared to a year ago.
The third-quarter increase was largely due to deployments by direct-broadcast satellite provider EchoStar Communications Corp., which planned its OpenTV rollout and took a stake in the software maker back in 1998. British Sky Broadcasting Group plc, meanwhile, has OpenTV installed in about 4.1 million satellite receivers.
OpenTV also reported that more than 700,000 cable set-tops are outfitted with its middleware.
