NTELOS Taps Alcatel to Extend IPTV Reach

Virginia telco NTELOS Inc. tapped Alcatel SA to supply its “Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture” to boost its high-speed-Internet, IPTV and voice-over-IP services over fiber.

Based in Waynesboro, NTELOS is a wholesale fiber-optic-network provider and an incumbent local-exchange carrier, offering digital-subscriber-line services to 90% of its territory.

Adding Alcatel’s architecture -- which includes access, IP and Ethernet routing and aggregation; Gigabit passive optical networking; and a network-monitoring system -- it can better serve its customers, according to Glenn Butler, NTELOS’ director of technology planning and switch engineering.

"Alcatel demonstrated that they have a well-thought-out architecture and the end-to-end network components needed to offer these services,” he said.

NTELOS will also test Alcatel’s “7330 ISAM” fiber-to-the-node product to extend its delivery of DSL services in its service territory.
