No Emmy Nominations for ‘La Reina del Sur’

Despite an aggressive — and first of its kind — for-your-consideration campaign, Telemundo's blockbuster telenovela La Reina del Sur was not nominated for a primetime Emmy Award.

Riding on historic ratings, Telemundo had sought two nods
for La Reina: Outstanding Drama
Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for star Kate del
Castillo.

Primetime Emmy nominations were announced July 14 and though
Spanish-language series or movies were conspicuous by their absence, two Latino
actors made the cut: Colombian actress Sofía Vergara as Outstanding Supporting
Actress in a Comedy Series (Modern Family);
and Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramírez as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or
a Movie (Carlos).

No Spanish-language show has ever won an Emmy in one of the
major categories.
