Nick Sweeps Up Saturdays
Chucky and SpongeBob gave the Pokemon gang a shellacking Saturday mornings during the May sweep period.
Nickelodeon boasted that it scored a clean sweep against its broadcast and cable competition in the May sweep, finishing No. 1 with kids in national ratings on Saturday mornings, weekday afternoons and in primetime, according to Nielsen Media Research data supplied by Nick.
For the full 1999-2000 season, however, Nick and The WB Television Network were tied for first place among children on Saturday mornings. Both posted a 4.0 rating and 17 share for kids two to 11. But The WB's showing reflected an 82 percent gain over the prior season, while Nick was down 6 percent, according to Nielsen numbers provided by The WB.
Nick outperformed The WB on Saturday mornings in the May sweep. The cable net's Saturday "Nicktoons" block from 8 a.m. to noon averaged a 4.3 national rating and a 20 share, which translates to 1.7 million kids two through 11, 39 percent ahead of its closest competitor, the Fox broadcast network.
Fox was No. 2 with a 3.1 rating, or 1.2 million kid viewers. Then came: The WB, with a 3.0 rating and 1.19 million viewers; ABC, with a 2.6 and 1 million viewers; Disney Channel, with a 1.5 and 594,000 viewers; Cartoon Network, with a 1.4 and 573,000 viewers; and Fox Family Channel, with a 0.6 and 232,000 viewers.
Nick also had the four highest-rated programs on Saturday morning during the sweep, led by Rugrats, Rocket Power and SpongeBob SquarePants. Nick beat The WB's Pokemon head to head with Rugrats at 9 a.m. and SpongeBob at 10 a.m.
And Nick racked up a strong performance during the May sweep on weekday afternoons, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with kids. Nick finished No. 1 with a 3.1 national rating and 20 share, or 1.3 million viewers, 48 percent ahead of its closest competitor.
Nick was followed by: Fox, with a 2.1 rating and 821,000 viewers; The WB, with a 1.7 and 690,000 viewers; Cartoon, with a 1.0 and 408,000 viewers; Disney, with a 0.8 and 305,000 viewers; and Fox Family, with a 0.4 and 165,000 viewers.
