San Antonio-SBC Communications Inc. said it would cut the monthly fee it charges its existing digital-subscriber-line subscribers by $20 and try to lure additional high-speed customers with free service and rebated PCs via a promotion with Prodigy Communications Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp.
Though Oct. 31, new "qualifying" customers who sign up for DSL service and a DSL-enabled Compaq PC will receive up to three months of free Internet access. Customers must commit for 28 months.
