National Geographic Free-Lancer Shot
A free-lance reporter on assignment in Afghanistan for National Geographic
Television was shot in the leg over the weekend, National Geographic spokeswoman
Ellen Stanley confirmed Monday morning.
Gary Scurka was working for the company's National Geographic Explorer
series, which runs on MSNBC, Stanley said.
She could not confirm where or when he was shot, or if Scurka was traveling
with two French radio reporters and a German magazine reporter who were killed
during an ambush by Taliban forces Sunday.
Reuters reported that Scurka was shot Sunday in the Takhar province, near the
frontline between the Northern Alliance and the Taliban troops.
Scurka was being evacuated Monday to France, Stanley said.
