MyNetworkTV Taps Tandberg

Fledgling broadcast channel MyNetworkTV will use high-definition and standard definition encoders from Tandberg Television to support its network launch next week.

MyNetworkTV, which will debut with 167 affiliates representing 96% of U.S. TV households, targets the adult 18-49 age demographic with programming including Twentieth Television’s new scripted primetime drama strips Desire and Fashion House starring Bo Derek and Morgan Fairchild.

To supply its video feeds, MyNetworkTV has installed Tandberg’s high-definition and standard-definition MPEG-2 encoding gear at its Los Angeles origination center, including E5710 and E5780 MPEG-2 encoders, MX5620 multiplexers and Director v5 network management and receiver control system. Network affiliates, meanwhile, will deploy either the TT1260 MPEG-2 standard definition or TT1280 MPEG-2 high-definition receiver, depending on whether they opt for a standard-definition or high-definition feed.
