mPhase Secures DSL Video Patent

NORWALK, CONN. -A U.S. patent has been issued for a system mPhase Technologies
uses to send MPEG-2 (Moving Pictures Expert Group) video signals over digital subscriber lines, the company said.

The company holds an exclusive license for the system, dubbed the Tranverser Digital Video and Data Delivery System, from the Georgia Tech Research Corp.

The patent covers the delivery of "digital video content, bi-directional data services and plain old telephone service (POTS) to an end user over a communications channel," typically the copper wires that link a customer premise to a telephone company's central office, mPhase said. The patent could also cover wireless connections, the company said.

Following a battery of tests, mPhase and Hart Telephone Co. plan to conduct consumer beta trials in Hartwell, Ga.
