New York -- Carol Lynn Jordan, the longtime managing editor and deputy editor at Multichannel News, died Oct. 2 at a hospital in Cleveland after an illness. She was 49.
A professional reporter and editor for more than 26 years, Jordan had been a mainstay at Reed Business Information weekly trade publication MCN since 1989, when she was hired as managing editor, coordinating editorial and production activities in New York and involving three bureau offices.
She also oversaw the magazine’s “Forum” guest editorial pages, which brought her into contact with many people and organizations in the cable industry. In 1998, she was promoted to deputy editor, and in 2001, she was promoted again to group deputy editor for the Television Group, which also includes Broadcasting & Cable.
"Carol was not only the consummate professional, but a dear friend to us all," said Marianne Paskowski, former editor in chief of MCN and now a contributing editor with the publication.
“To a large part, Carol was the glue that kept Multichannel News running so smoothly,” she added. “She could anticipate a problem a mile away and make it go away before we tripped all over ourselves. We have lost a dear and much-loved colleague and friend."
Born in Cleveland July 1, 1956, she graduated from Glenville High School in Cleveland and from Ohio University in Athens, where she received a bachelor of science in journalism in 1979.
Her early career included a reporting stint at the Lake County Telegraph in Painesville, Ohio, following internships at the Dayton Daily News and The Plain Dealer in Cleveland. She did free-lance public-relations work from 1982 until she became a reporter at American Metal Market, from which she moved to MCN.
She was active in the New Hope Baptist Church in Jersey City, N.J., where she lived before moving more recently to Englewood, N.J. And she helped to raise funds for Hale House and the United Negro College Fund.
Survivors include a son, Jason Superville, age 15, and a brother, Harold Jordan.
