Ed McMahon is back as a talent scout, this time for Pax TV.
He will essentially reprise his Star Search role as host of Ed
McMahon's Next Big Star, a new variety show that will bow on Pax TV in
August.
According to Pax TV programming president Bill Scott, the network -- which
reaches 82 percent of U.S. TV households through a combination of broadcast,
cable and satellite distribution -- has committed to 26 original episodes, with
production slated to begin in July.
The program is based on McMahon's successful Internet venture and TV specials
of the same name.
Competitors gleaned from open auditions around the nation, bus tours and
submissions to NextBigStar.com will
advance through quarterfinal rounds before moving to the semifinals and
ultimately the final competition, where cash, prizes and a chance for fame
await.
