Marketing Vet Davidson Returns to HBO

Home Box Office veteran Steve Davidson is returning to the premium network’s affiliate-sales team.

Davidson was named executive vice president of affiliate sales, effective Feb. 2. He will be responsible for the direction of HBO’s and Cinemax’s account-based activities relative to cable and satellite providers, as well as managing special-market distribution nationwide.

In 2002, Davidson left HBO to cofound Sports Media Group LLC, a firm specializing in the formation and operation of regional sports networks. During that span, he remained involved with the pay network as a consultant.

Davidson originally joined HBO in 1979 as a regional manager in the Mideast, and he was promoted to regional director in 1981.

Over the course of his tenure, he earned many promotions and was named general manager of both the New York and Philadelphia offices in 1996. He was appointed senior VP and GM, affiliate operations in 1999.

"Steve was always a greatly respected part of the HBO team, and I’m excited that he has agreed to return to the company," HBO president of sales and marketing Eric Kessler said in a prepared statement.
