Madonna Carries an Audience for HBO

Madonna still has clout at arena box offices -- and on the small screen.

Home Box Office's premiere of the pop icon's concert Aug. 26 attracted some
5.8 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data supplied by the
network. That performance topped her previous appearance on the premium network
in November 1993, which garnered some 5.4 million viewers.

Recording an 11.0 rating/17 share within HBO's universe Sunday night,
Madonna Live: The Drowned World Tour was the highest-rated music special
on the network since Cher's performance in August 1999.

However, the ratings for 'The Material Girl's' homecoming show at The Palace
of Auburn Hills (suburban Detroit) didn't measure up to the 17.0/27 share her
concert in November 1993 generated within HBO homes.
