Kim Magness Found Dead
Denver police said an autopsy will determine the cause of death of Kim
Magness, 50, an heir of late Tele-Communications Inc. founder Bob Magness.
His body was discovered by a maid Saturday in a Denver hotel.
Police said items found at the death scene lead investigators to brand the
death suspicious, but they would not state what the items were. There does not
appear to be evidence that Magness was murdered, according to authorities.
Magness was scheduled to report to a drug-rehabilitation program in Tucson,
Ariz., Friday, but his arrival was rescheduled to Sunday, said attorney Jack
Levine, a family friend. Magness died Saturday.
Levine said Magness dined with friends Friday night and complained of stomach
pain. He took an over-the-counter indigestion remedy, the attorney said, but
"still felt lousy." He asked to be taken back to his hotel.
Magness had served as a director of his late father's cable company and,
until recently, on the board of Liberty Media Corp. He resigned from that board
last month following his arrest by police in suburban Greenwood Village, Colo.,
for investigation of drug possession.
Magness was in the midst of a divorce from his wife, according to Levine. He
is also survived by two teen-aged sons.
