The controversial end of the Super Bowl halftime show duet by Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake was off TiVo Inc.’s charts
The digital-video-recorder vendor said Monday that viewership of that segment spiked up to 180% as viewers used TiVo’s capability to pause and replay live television to view the incident over and over.
"The 'wardrobe incident' during halftime was the scene-stealer of the Super Bowl," TiVo president Marty Yudkovitz said in a release. "In fact, the halftime show during the Super Bowl is now running a close second to the commercials as the most compelling content for viewers. The actual contest on the field continues to be the secondary event during the Super Bowl."
In other TiVo news, its "Series2" DVRs are now available for under $200, the company said Monday.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Series2 is now $199 for the 40-hour model and $299 for the 80-hour model.
"Our goal has always been to make TiVo more affordable for consumers so that more people can have access to the original features unique to the TiVo service and be in control of their television experience," vice president of sales Joe Miller said in a release.
"We believe that priced at $199, it's now easier than ever to get TiVo," he added.
