HSA Quarterly Subs Rise 26%

High Speed Access Corp. said its residential cable-modem-subscriber base rose
to 176,000 as of June 30, a 26 percent jump from the 140,000 the company
reported as of March 31.

HSA said it continues to shift its MSO contracts from a turnkey model to a
more cost-effective network-service agreement.

To further reduce costs, HSA said in April that it intended to halt services
in some systems that lack two-way capability. At the time, the company said that
strategy would impact fewer than 4 percent of its customer base and about 20
affiliates.

So far, HSA has discontinued servicing about 2,000 one-way cable-modem
customers.

HSA is expected to release second-quarter earnings Aug.
