Gary Howard, Liberty Media Corp.'s executive vice president and chief
operating officer the past five years, will exit both roles Feb. 1.
In a prepared statement released Tuesday night, Howard said he would end his
Liberty relationship, as well as his two-decade business education from Liberty
chairman John Malone, "to enjoy the fruits of my labor and move on to another
chapter in my life."
He didn’t specify in the statement what his plans are.
Howard got started in cable in 1984 at former MSO United Cable Television
Corp., later United Artists Entertainment.
When Malone’s Tele-Communications Inc. merged with UAE in 1991, Howard moved
to TCI as an acquisitions specialist. He held major executive slots at various
TCI units before moving to Liberty in 1998.
"This is a big and complicated company, and Gary has played a central role in
all of our major transactions and in the day-to-day operations of the company,"
Liberty CEO Robert 'Dob' Bennett said in a prepared statement.
"All of us in the Liberty Media family are grateful for the contributions
Gary has made to our success over the years, and we wish him the very best after
his retirement," Bennett added.
