Hogan Takes Family Leave

New York— Marketing editor Monica Hogan and her husband, Patrick W. Flippin, last week adopted a newborn baby girl, named Melanie Faith. As a result, Hogan will be taking a family-related leave of absence until Jan. 2.

The baby was born in North Dakota. Because of disruptions to airline schedules after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Hogan and Flippin drove there from their home in New Jersey. On Saturday, while en route, they received a call saying the birth mother was about to go into labor. The adoptive parents were in a hotel in Wisconsin when they listened to the birth over the telephone, Hogan reported. The baby was born at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, she said.

They expect to return home to New Jersey in about a week.
