HBO Big Player In Comedy, Drama Golden Globes Nominations

Cable networks, and in particular HBO, garnered several nominations in major Golden Globe Awards categories, which were announced Thursday morning.

Cable networks and over the top services dominated the best comedy category, with HBO’s Silicon Valley and Girls  vying against Netlix’s Orange Is The New Black (pictured) and Amazon Studios’ Transparent. CW’s Jane The Virgin rounds out the category.

The drama category didn’t hold too many surprises with Showtime’s The Affair, PBS’ Downton Abbey, HBO’s Game of Thrones, CBS’ The Good Wife and Netflix’s House of Cards competing for the statuette.

Cable and HBO led the best miniseries category. HBO’s Normal Heart, Olive Kitteridge and True Detectives will compete with Starz’ The Missing and FX’s Fargo.
