Greg Babinski Wins 2014 Cable-Tec Games
DENVER – SCTE Cable-Tec Expo -- Greg Babinski, a system technician with Bright House Networks in New Port Richey, Fla., outpaced a field of 30 competitors here to take down the 2014 SCTE International Cable-Tec Games title.
Babinski (photo courtesy of SCTE), winner of the 24th-annual International Games on Tuesday (September 23), took on competitors from around the world in a series of seven events that tested specific skills, including fiber and cable splicing, and how well they knew their cable lore.
Babinski, representing SCTE Region 9 and the SCTE Central Florida Chapter, has been an SCTE member since 2006.
Last year’s champion, Greg Brakefield of Comporium in Rock Hill, S.C. (SCTE Piedmont Chapter/SCTE Region 10), took second. TJ Diplacido of Charter Communications in Fort Worth, Texas (SCTE North Central Texas Chapter/SCTE Region 4), was third.
SCTE also announced the first-place winners of the International Games’ seven individual contests:
-Drop Connection: Joe Cannons, Time Warner Cable, Austin, Texas, SCTE Hill Country Chapter (Region 4)
-Cable Splicing: Bob Colwell, Comcast, Portsmouth, N.H., SCTE New England Chapter (Region 12)

SCTE said Chris Miranda of Comcast in Livermore, Calif., was named the recipient of the fourth annual Spirit of the Games Award. Presented in memory of Mr. David Jones, this award recognizes an individual who best exhibits sportsmanship in the SCTE Cable-Tec Games and embraces the learning environment of the Games.
