Gecan To Grow HGTV Programming

Anna Gecan is bringing her talents south.

Gecan, who has served the past four years as vice president, content, HGTV Canada, will assume become vice president, original programming for HGTV in the States next month.
Beginning Sept. 1, Gecan, who also has developed content for Food Network Canada, will have day-to-day oversight of the network's Knoxville and New York-based program production teams.
She will operate from the New York office, reporting directly to Freddy James, senior vice president, program development and production.
Gecan is credited with leading HGTV Canada as it became one of the most successful niche networks for parent company Canwest Broadcasting. Many of her top shows in Canada are ratings drivers for HGTV in the United States as well, including Income Property, The Unsellables, Holmes on Homes, Property Virgins and For Rent.
"Anna has a tremendous eye for talent, has a sixth sense for what the viewer wants and knows how to create and critique content from our target audience's perspective," said James in a statement. "Having her on the team will enable us to execute our strategic and creative visions at a competitive pace and help us to re-imagine and expand HGTV's programming portfolio."
