Ex-Installer Griego Nabbed for Assault

Police apprehended former cable technician Jeff Albert Griego last Wednesday, four days after he allegedly sexually assaulted a Denver woman after claiming that he was at her home to perform an installation.

Griego had previously worked for AT&T Broadband contractors CND and Viasource Communications.

"Obviously, we are glad the authorities have found him, and we'll continue to cooperate with them on the investigation," MSO spokeswoman Jeanine Hansen said.

According to Denver police reports, a 64-year-old woman said a man posing as a cable installer forced his way into a home Jan. 18 and sexually assaulted her.

The woman told police she recognized the man standing on her doorstep from several months ago, when she had inquired about cable service.

But the woman was suspicious, and when she refused to let him into the house, he forced his way in, according to reports. Claiming that he had a gun, he took money and jewelry from the woman, then attacked her.

The man fled in the victim's car. Two days later, police located the car with four men inside, but none was considered a suspect in the assault, according to police.

AT&T Broadband does require background checks for its employees and requires subcontractors to do the same.

But Hansen declined to comment when asked whether such a check had been performed on Griego, who, according to reports, has a long arrest record.
