Who says you can’t come home again? Not Evan Messinger, Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s senior vice president, strategic integration manager — news.
The cable veteran made his career at Turner, joining in 1987 as account executive and leaving in 1999 as senior VP, business development. “I’ve been running to work every day, as corny as that sounds,” he said in a recent interview.
He’s now tasked with the day-to-day sales management of Cable News Network’s global client solutions, program integration sales and promotional activities — in other words, leveraging the full portfolio of CNN’s assets. “What I have found is the best way to really develop an integrated program is one where all the cultures are involved,” he said. “The solution is not just media-based: It includes business development, content creation, even a best-of-sales process within that organization.” Messinger’s prior cross-platform experience was with Spanish-language broadcaster Univision. There, he handled a wide range of properties ranging from broadcast TV to radio to music. Though the target audience is different, Messinger said, the concept behind strategic integration remains the same. He added that he “had a ball” in the Latin segment, and hopes to parlay his experience at Univision by finding ways to connect CNN to that market.
Messinger, 45, splits his home time between Manhattan and upstate New York. He and wife Maxanne are expecting twins, their first children. He’s also an avid motorcyclist and art activist — working to "create public awareness on important issues, using art as a lever to express a point of view."
