Epix Inks Output Deal With Roadside Attractions
Epix has signed an exclusive output deal with Roadside Attractions that will give it 22 films slated for release over the next three years.
The deals, terms of which were not disclosed, will give Epix, the multiplatform venture of Viacom's Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Lionsgate, access to such 2009 films as boxing drama From Mexico With Love, eco-thriller The Cove and Battle For Terra, a computer-generated animated outer space adventure.
The output deal is Epix's second -- it reached a contract with Samuel Goldwyn Films last month.
The service is scheduled to launch next month with Verizon FiOS, its initial affiliate.
Roadside's upcoming slate includes Happy Tears, starring Demi Moore and Parker Posey, which premiered at this year's Berlin Film Festival. Remaining titles in Roadside's 2010 and 2011 lineup will be announced shortly.
"Roadside is an ideal partner for Epix with a reputation as a leading independent film distributor delivering award-winning movies," said Epix president and CEO Mark Greenberg in announcing the pact.. "Roadside's films add depth to what is already one of the most robust movie libraries in the premium movie service, with titles from Paramount, MGM, Lionsgate and Samuel Goldwyn Films. Movies matter, which is why Epix delivers entertainment to consumers on demand, on TV, online and on mobile devices - anytime, anywhere."
Noted Roadside co-president Howard Cohen: "We here at Roadside are thrilled to be partnering with Epixand feel that this arrangement further cements Roadside as a top-tier theatrical distributor. At a time of great contraction in the indie world, having this guaranteed outlet for our films across multiple platforms, I believe, will make Roadside an even more attractive home for filmmakers. Epix is a forward-thinking company that is positioning itself to be at the forefront of the next generation of broadcasting, and we are excited to be part of that evolution."
