Emperative Moves to New Lab
Broadband-provisioning-software company Emperative Inc. took the wraps off its new Boulder, Colo.-based "Broadband Provisioning Lab," located just down the street from Cable Television Laboratories Inc.
Vice president of product management Craig Weich said the lab-which houses more than $2 million worth of equipment and software and 25 employees-is where Emperative and its partners will further develop Java-based "Ilets," or automation interfaces associated with Emperative's "ProvEn" provisioning-software engine for cable, digital-subscriber-line, wireless and optical networks.
Ilets allow customers to self-provision high-speed services from their PCs, as well as send detailed information about subscribers directly to service providers.
Emperative said it will invite vendors to the lab to collaborate on developing interoperability tests based on the ProvEn platform.
In the cable-modem-termination-system sphere, ProvEn currently supports Ilets from Broadband Access Systems Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., RiverDelta Networks Inc. and Terayon Communication Systems Inc.
While Emperative's laboratory will focus on provisioning interoperability, its efforts won't conflict with those of CableLabs, the company said.
Emperative-which closed a $20 million round of financing in July-inked a deployment deal for its self-activation and management software with Road Runner earlier this year.
