Eero, a startup that makes whole-home WiFi equipment and management software, confirmed that it has laid off about 30 employees as it applies more focus to its “core business.”
TechCrunch first reported on the layoff, noting that the reduction impacted about 20% of the company’s total workforce.
Eero released this statement:
“Our goal is to provide perfect WiFi in every home. Over the past year we explored several related projects, and we've now made the tough decision to eliminate one new project in favor of greater focus on our core business. We do not take this lightly, and unfortunately this shift means about 30 colleagues will no longer be working at eero. We will continue our work to make eero the most reliable, secure, and easiest home WiFi solution.”
Eero declined to elaborate on the project that was eliminated.
Last year, eero introduced a second-generation of whole-home WiFi products, including a new “Beacon” device that can plug directly into power outlets and a premium “network protection” subscription service.
Also of recent note, eero broadened its sales channels with a new lineup that is dedicated to professional installers.
Eero has also complemented its retail business with one focused on ISP partnerships. Blue Ridge Communications, eero’s first cable operator partner, launched a new premium offering, called HomeFi, that features eero’s compact WiFi access points working in tandem with the customer’s cable modem and an MSO-branded app that lets users manage their home WiFi networks.
Founded in 2014, eero has raised about $90 million, according to CrunchBase.
