EchoStar’s 'Sage' Connects With Nest

Sage by Hughes, a home security and automation platform launched by EchoStar Technologies in March, said it has extended support to Google’s Nest products, including security cameras, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and the Nest Learning Thermostat.

The integration expands the component options for Sage, which lets users control the system through apps for Android and iOS mobile devices and the television via the HDMI-connected Sage Hub.

Sage said its system allows for self-installs of those Nest products and the ability to set customized rules that, for example, turn on the lights when the Nest Cam detects motion inside the home.

“The ability to communicate with Nest products gives SAGE customers more options to customize their home to meet their security and smart home needs,” Mark Jackson, president of EchoStar Technologies, said in a statement. “We are excited to partner with Nest by becoming an official reseller of its products through our SAGE store.”

EchoStar is selling Sage by Hughes on the web. Its Starter Kit runs $199.99, while larger bundles and product combinations cost a bit more – the Automation Kit runs $229.99, and the Security Kit costs $349.99.  EchoStar is also selling add-on devices and accessories, including the Nest products, on an a la carte basis

Sage joins other smart home platforms that support Nest products. Comcast’s Xfinity Home service, for example, has extended support to the Nest thermostat, as does Icontrol, a company that has partnered up with several cable operators, including Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks.
