East L.A. College Plugs Into IPTV

Educational IPTV is coming to East Los AngelesCollegethanks to a service deal struck with StarBak Communications.

The college deployed StarBak's “Integrated Network Video” system to supply live and on-demand content and DVD textbook information to students off-campus via the Internet. That is particularly useful since many of the community-college students hold down full-time jobs and are off-campus much of the time.

“Allowing students to access courseware using video-on-demand, when it fits their busy schedules, is an advantage that results in better performance and improved learning," said Gonzalo Mendoza, East Los Angeles College’s information-technology manager. "The StarBak solution was a good fit for us as it not only gives the ability to offer video content online, but also allows us to stream important news and information to displays around the college."

The East Los Angeles project is the second California community-college deal that Waltham, Mass.-based StarBak has pulled down in recent months. In May, it also landed a deal with Los Angeles Harbor College to deploy an Internet video-delivery system.
