Discovery Signs HDTV-Carriage Deals

Discovery Communications Inc. announced that it has signed carriage deals for
its Discovery HD Theater high-definition-television feed with several MSOs and
direct-broadcast satellite provider EchoStar Communications Corp.

Discovery HD Theater launched on EchoStar's Dish Network Monday evening at 6
p.m. EST. Program descriptions are available at http://dhd.discovery.com.

Dish will charge $7.99 per month for the Discovery HD feed. Subscribers need
HD-capable receivers and satellite dishes pointed at the 61.5 degrees west
orbital location.

In addition to Dish, AT&T Broadband of Chicago, Charter Communications
Inc. and Cox Communications Inc. have agreed to launch Discovery HD Theater,
although not all of them will launch it immediately.

Discovery is the first basic-cable programmer to launch an HDTV feed.
Broadcast networks and premium-movie services Home Box Office and Showtime
Networks Inc. also provide HDTV programming.
