Discovery Networks U.S. executive vice president of ad sales Bill McGowan
announced Tuesday that he will be leaving at the end of this year to form his
own firm, McGowan Communications LLC in New York.
Effective in January, his new firm will represent Discovery Communications
Inc.'s paid programming to clients -- meaning direct-response and infomercial --
under the licensed name "Discovery Direct."
Discovery Networks president of ad sales Joe Abruzzese said in a prepared
statement, "Bill has been a great asset to DCI for the past 12 years." McGowan
had joined the company in 1991 as senior VP of ad sales.
Abruzzese had denied in late May that McGowan was leaving, with a spokeswoman
saying rumors to that effect were "not true."
