Discovery Communications is teaming with China's Huawei Technologies to create a co-branded mobile phone for outdoor enthusiasts that's water-resistant, dustproof and shockproof.
The Huawei-Discovery Expedition phone, which is currently in development, is expected to hit retail in the U.S. and other countries in November. Pricing and availability have not been announced yet, according to Discovery spokeswoman Jenn Marburg.
The phone also will include a GPS sensor, flashlight, compass and G-sensor, and provide integrated Facebook and Twitter social-networking features.
"The Discovery Expedition line of products aims to satisfy the needs of the adventurous consumer, and the Huawei-Discovery Expedition phone lives up to that mission with its ability to endure nature's elements and provide a reliable, durable option for our most active customers," Elizabeth Bakacs, vice president of Discovery Channel licensing, said in a prepared statement.
The Huawei-Discovery Expedition phone will be promoted through a marketing campaign that includes on-air and online advertising, public relations and support via Discovery's websites and social media assets.
