Discovery Promotes Goodwyn

Bill Goodwyn has been promoted to the slot of president of affiliate sales and marketing for Discovery Networks U.S., officials said Tuesday.

Goodwyn, who has spent 17 years at Discovery, most recently held the title of executive vice president of affiliate sales and marketing.

“No cable affiliate-sales executive has done more to shape the industry’s distribution landscape than Bill Goodwyn,” Discovery Networks president Billy Campbell said in a prepared statement.

“He has brought Discovery into the digital and high-definition television age, spearheaded the record-breaking distribution growth of many of Discovery’s domestic networks and led some of the most remarkable ‘turnaround’ stories in the cable industry, such as TLC [The Learning Channel] and Travel Channel,” Campbell added. “This promotion reaffirms what Discovery, our distribution partners and his peers in the industry have always known: He’s the best in the business.”

In his new role, Goodwyn will continue to oversee all affiliate sales, marketing and promotion efforts for Discovery’s 13 U.S. networks, for TLC in Canada, for BBC America and for all sales and marketing for Discovery Networks’ on-demand and HD programming services.
