Discovery Preps Cinco de Mayo Docudrama
Just in time for this year's May 5 celebrations around the U.S.,
Discovery en Español next week will premiere 5 de mayo: un dia de Gloria (May
5: A Day of Glory) an original production about the historical events of
the epic battle in which an improvised force of Mexican peasants defeated the
French Army.
It has been 150 years since the event known as the Battle of
Puebla, and several Hispanic programmers are expected to commemorate the milestone.
Discovery's documentary (to premiere April 29) was directed
by Mexican filmmaker Gerardo Tort, winner of 11 Mexican Academy of Film Ariel
Awards, and retells the story of one of the most decisive moments in Mexican
history. The docudrama was filmed at different locations in Puebla to recreate
the events of that fateful day.
Shot in high definition, 5
de Mayo was made with the support of Television de Puebla and the Mexican
Ministry of National Defense's Department of Archives and History.
