Discovery Kids Gets Trading Spaces Jr.

The room-makeover subgenre of programming has been a big hit among adults. In
May, Discovery Kids will find out how well it will trade among children.

Production is set to begin later this month on 13 episodes of a kids' version
of Trading Spaces, with the first scheduled to bow on the "Discovery Kids
on NBC" block May 17.

Trading Spaces: Boys vs. Girls will then follow its Saturday-morning
block premiere on the "Peacock" on digi-net Discovery Kids May 19 at 7 p.m. and
10 p.m.

Banyan Productions, which oversees production for Trading Spaces, is
currently on the lookout for a host, designers and carpenters for the kids'
entry, which will pay tribute to children's creativity and enthusiasm.

Boys and girls will work with grown-up experts to re-create rooms they think
each other will want. Concepts are still being considered, but network officials
said skateboarding enthusiasts and soccer devotees could find their rooms
transformed into a skate park or a pitch, respectively,

For Discovery Kids, Jim Rapsas will serve as executive producer, while
Marjorie Kaplan is the executive in charge of production.
