Discovery Kids on Applebee's Summer Menu

Kids can learn a little about tiger sharks and mummies while munching on chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks this summer, courtesy of Discovery Kids and Applebee's Restaurants.

Children visiting the eatery's more than 1,600 restaurants from late June through mid-September will receive a Discovery Kids activity booklet and collectible plastic cup themed with Kenny the Shark and Tutenstein characters from the animated RealToons series.

The giveaway items will be loaded with facts about sharks and ancient Egyptian history that will entertain kids while engaging their minds. The alliance, which will yield a minimum of 4 million booklets and cups, was negotiated on behalf of the partners by EastWest Creative.

“This is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of the high quality kids programming that airs on the Discovery Kids Channel,” said Discovery Kids executive vice president and general manager Marjorie Kaplan.

The promotional packs mark the second in-restaurant deal for Discovery Kids, which supplied dinosaur, shark and space-themed toys for Arby's Adventure Meals in 2001-02, according to Discovery officials.
