Discovery Hires Digital Programmer From Scripps

Discovery Communications said it has hired former Scripps Networks Interactive executive Jody Jones as senior vice president of digital programming, a new position.

Jones, who oversaw SNI's programming strategy across digital platforms, will be responsible for developing and executing of Discovery's online presence, and working with network leadership to oversee the editorial vision for programming across the company's portfolio of websites. She reports to Kelly Day, executive VP and COO of Digital Media and Commerce.

After joining SNI from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in 2007, Jones overhauled the content and editorial vision surrounding the company's online brands, creating and implementing new multimedia strategies for FoodNetwork.com, HGTV.com, DIYNetwork.com, Recipezaar.com, FineLiving.com and GACTV.com, Discovery said. During this time she also led programming and content strategy during the launch of four new lifestyle brands: Frontdoor.com; Ecologue.com; HealthyEats.com; and Food2.com.

Before Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, where she launched the new marthastewart.com, Jones worked at AOL where she developed the editorial programming for such sites as AOL House & Home, AOL Food, and AOL Women, which during her tenure was the highest-trafficked portal of websites for women.

"Jody has built some of the most robust online destinations in the industry and she will play a critical role in maximizing and growing the 35 million unique visitors who are drawn to our Discovery sites," Day said in a release. "With her strategic vision and creative instincts, Jody will enhance the affinity consumers have for our sites and expand the ways in which our partners can benefit from our unparalleled nonfiction offerings online."
