Boston— Deal news and partnerships were the order of the day at last week’s Voice On the Net conference here.
VoIP Inc. announced that it has signed J&N Cable Systems for its voice-over-Internet protocol service. J&N, a member of the National Cable Television Cooperative, operates 10 cable systems in two Western states.
VoIP Inc. CEO Steven Ivester said the high cost of soft switches, termination networks and billing systems can make it difficult for smaller cable systems to offer VoIP. “Our program is designed to be an economical and efficient solution for these providers, enabling them to begin offering VoIP to their clients quickly and without a large investment of their time and money,” he said in a statement.
Elsewhere, Net2Phone, Motorola Inc. and CedarPoint Communications Inc., which worked together to provide Liberty Cablevision in Puerto Rico with a VoIP platform, said they plan to offer a joint solution to other cable providers.
The companies said they will jointly market a comprehensive VoIP platform that will include CedarPoint’s Safari C3 softswitch and element management system, Motorola’s cable-modem termination system routers and telephony cable modems, and Net2Phone hosted VoIP services. For its part, Net2Phone said it has selected CedarPoint as its preferred partner for VoIP rollouts.
Vonage announced it was selling its VoIP service through Web site Buy.com. Two Vonage starter kits from Linksys are available there (www.buy.com).
