Cox's Waterman Dies at 63
Richard J. Waterman, a 23-year-veteran of the cable industry, collapsed in
the lobby of Cox Communications Inc.'s Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., office
Wednesday and died a short time later at Mission Hospital Regional Medical
Center in Mission Viejo, Cox officials said.
Waterman, Cox's vice president of government affairs for Southern California,
had planned to retire next February. He was 63.
'We are extremely saddened by the unexpected loss of our colleague. Dick was
a true cable-television pioneer,' said Leo Brennan, general manager of Cox
Communications of Orange County Inc.
'His passing is a loss not only to the community and our company, but to the
entire broadband industry,' Brennan added.
He is survived by his wife, Marylyn, and five children. Funeral arrangements
were pending.
