Cox, Time Warner Strike Up BigBand

Cox Communications Inc. has deployed BigBand Networks Inc.’s "Ad Splicing Gateway" on the "BigBand BMR (Broadband Multimedia-Service Router)" in its New England systems for standards-based digital ad insertion, BigBand said Wednesday.

Digital ad splicing opens the local television advertising market to digital broadcasting through standards-based, seamless insertion from local servers into national broadcast feeds, the vendor said in a release.

BigBand also announced that Time Warner Cable is completing an end-to-end deployment of digital-television services based on its BigBand BMR in its Houston system, which has more than 1.5 million homes passed and over 25 hub sites.

Finally, the vendor said its platforms now drive live programming for more than 10 million digital-cable subscribers, or more than one-half of the country’s total, representing more than three times the penetration BigBand had achieved as of one year ago.
