Cox Dials VoIP Into All Markets
With the launch of its Cox Digital Telephone service in Cleveland this week, Cox Communications said it is on track to bring phone service to all of its markets by the end of the year.
Following Cleveland, the next markets on the MSO’s voice-over-Internet-protocol rollout list are Santa Barbara and Palos Verdes, Calif.; northwest Arkansas; and Sun Valley, Idaho. With that, the Atlanta-based cable operator will offer service in all of its markets, and it will continue to fill in telephone services through early 2007.
In addition to gaining top honors on J.D. Power and Associates’ annual Residential All-Distance Telephone Customer Satisfaction Studyreleased earlier this week, Cox Digital Telephone’s penetration is currently the highest among all cable operators, coming in at 33% of total cable customers and 24% of all homes passed by its network.
Since rolling out telephony services nearly one decade ago, Cox has dialed up voice customers, claiming more than 1.8 million residential and 150,000 business customers to date.
It also plans to start rolling out wireless-voice service by the end of this year as part of a joint venture with Sprint Nextel and to launch additional markets in 2007.
