Comcast’s Fandango Snaps Up Movieclips

Fandango, the online movie-ticketing service and data site acquired by Comcast in 2007, has struck a deal with ZEFR Inc. to acquire Movieclips, an online provider of movie trailers and clips via Movieclips.com and via 25 YouTube channels.

Financial terms were not disclosed. According to the companies, the Movieclips networks features a catalog of more than 45,000 curated film clips, trailers and original video productions. Movieclips, which relies on an ad-supported business model, claims to have more than 7 million subscribers and a YouTube network that averages 200 million video views per month.

Fandango said the acquisition will help it “expand the moviegoer experience across more platforms” by offering more videos, movie-related content and movie discovery capabilities. Movieclips video content will also be featured across Fandango’s online and mobile platforms.

“The Movieclips acquisition will further serve our fans, enhancing the Fandango experience with amazing video content available at one definitive destination,” said Paul Yanover, president of Fandango, in a release. “This deal, along with the launch of our redesigned website and mobile apps, will provide consumers an even better way to explore and share their passion for the movies.”

Movieclips launched in 2009.
