Comcast Corp. has joined the HomePlug Powerline Alliance as a board member, along with DS2 and EarthLink Inc.
"Comcast is excited about the potential for HomePlug to enhance our data, video and telephony services with new installation options and better features for the consumer," said Mark Francisco, director of home-service engineering at Comcast, in a prepared statement.
The alliance's aim is to help vendors and platform providers use in-home electrical wiring to send video and audio throughout the house.
Conexant Systems Inc., Matsushita Consumer Electronics (Panasonic), RadioShack Corp. and Sharp Electronics Corp. are also members of the alliance.
