Comcast Corp. announced Thursday that it will cosponsor long-running
high-school TV quiz show It's Academic with Giant Food Stores Inc.
The supermarket chain has sponsored the local TV show for 36 years.
The sponsors will jointly award scholarships to each school that
participates, with $90,000 expected to be awarded this year. Since its
inception, It's Academic has awarded $2 million-plus to schools.
It's Academic airs on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. on WJZ-TV Baltimore
and at 11 a.m. on WVIR-TV Charlottesville, Va.
Giant CEO Dick Baird said in a prepared statement, 'We are enthusiastic about
developing many new outreach initiatives in the community focused around It's
Academic through our partnership with Comcast.'
